Founded in 1983 in Western Pennsylvania by a coalition of concerned community and business leaders, Dollar Energy Fund, Inc. has grown to become the largest hardship fund in Pennsylvania and one of the largest in the country. Our organization has been there for those who need help with their utility bills and the need is growing due to increased costs of everyday living expenses and severe winters. These circumstances have caused our average utility assistance grant to increase, which means we are able to help fewer families with the same amount of money.
These circumstances have also provided an increase in requests from outside our service area. With expansions into West Virginia, Ohio, Virginia, Tennessee, Texas and Louisiana, Dollar Energy Fund now partners with more than 300 community-based organizations. We realize that often when a family is experiencing difficulty with their utility service, there is a need for other assistance as well. Our holistic approach offers more services to those we help.
You can make a difference in the lives of the families we serve by donating to Dollar Energy Fund. We partner with utility companies across Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, Louisiana and Texas. Our unique program model allows us to leverage the generosity of the community to maximize the support from the utility companies and their customers. Each company matches every donation to our hardship funds dollar for dollar and 100 percent of that money remains in your state to provide utility assistance for those less fortunate.
