December 1st, 2016
This year, Kennywood’s annual Holiday Lights event, sponsored by Duquesne Light, will feature a 90-foot tall Christmas tree—the tallest on record in Pennsylvania – and an all new Gingerbread Village!
Holiday Lights will continue every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night from 5-9 p.m., through December 23. Guests can enjoy the lights and consider spreading the holiday cheer to families in need.
Each night, Duquesne Light Company employees will be in the Penny Arcade accepting donations for Dollar Energy Fund. Guests who donate a minimum of $5 to Dollar Energy Fund will receive a complimentary holiday ornament. Proceeds benefit Pittsburgh families and individuals in need.
Also in the Penny Arcade, renowned gingerbread house maker Gingerbread Lane will display the new Gingerbread Village featuring miniature homes built out of delicious treats.
The 90-foot tree, located in the park’s lagoon area, will be ceremonially lit each night of the event at 5:45 p.m. Following the lighting, guests can watch the Kennywood Holiday Lights Show (performed every 30 minutes each night.) They can also seek warmth in Kennywood’s newly constructed 4-D Theater to watch The Polar Express: A 4-D Experience, a 15-minute spin-off on the popular holiday movie.
Many of the park’s traditional rides, including the Merry-Go-Round and several Kiddieland and holiday-themed rides, will be open. Adults can enjoy Christmas carols and a variety of local performance groups featured each night.
Tickets for Holiday Lights can be purchased at participating Giant Eagle locations, at the gate or online. Children two years of age and under are free. Parking is also free.
For the remainder of 2016, when you buy a Holiday Lights ticket, you get one free! Also, senior citizens (age 55+) get free entrance simply by presenting valid identification at the Kennywood entrance gate ticket booths!
